Buckhead SPI-9 Expansion
This fall a team of consultants will be assisting the Buckhead Community Improvement District (CID) in cooperation with the Buckhead Alliance, NPU-B, BATMA, and the City of Atlanta to review, update, and potentially extend zoning and development regulations in the greater Buckhead Village Area.
The effort will include an evaluation of existing conditions in this larger area, a series of public and advisory committee meetings to discuss potential public space and design standards, and conversations with local partners including the City of Atlanta to consider how to best ensure quality development in and around the Buckhead Village.
- The zoning update will build on the recent update to SPI-9 in the Core Buckhead Village Area.
- The update will focus on the West Village, Peachtree Corridor and Piedmont Corridor to build consensus toward desired future public space and development characteristics.
- The update will not substantially alter existing development rights in terms of potential uses, but it will seek to provide incentives to create a more integrated, dynamic, walkable, and cohesive district.
- The update will include an economic analysis and development focus groups to ensure that any new regulations are reasonable and implementable.
The Buckhead SPI-9 Expansion and Update is funded by the Buckhead CID, Buckhead Village Alliance, and the Atlanta Regional Commission as part of its Livable Centers Initiative Program. The Buckhead Community completed a community-based land use and transportation plan in 2001 (the Buckhead Action Plan) to become eligible for planning and construction funds related to meeting the LCI plan’s objectives and encouraging smart growth in existing activity centers.
