Encourage and Support Your Employees’ Alternative Commute Efforts
Encourage a greater use of commute alternatives by getting involved with BATMA, promoting the use of commute options at your worksite through promotions, events, and communications, providing preferential parking for carpool and vanpoolers, and providing onsite transit pass sales.

Discounted Monthly MARTA Passes
Employers can provide discounted monthly MARTA passes to their employees through BATMA’s Transave Program.  The passes are offered with a 5% discount off the regular fare and are good for unlimited rides on MARTA trains and buses.

Offer Transit and Vanpool Subsidies to Employees
BATMA offers subsidies to curb vanpooling and transit costs, but employers can go a step further by partially or fully subsidizing the costs.  Employers can add a valuable employee benefit by providing their own subsidies to the already discounted passes and vanpool rates.  Employers that offer transit and vanpool subsidies also receive tax benefits that directly affect your bottom line. It’s a win-win situation for all!

Teleworking
Teleworking replaces the commute to and from work, where an employee can work at home or another location on a full or part time basis. Many employees telework only once or twice per week. On the other hand, some employees telework full time and only go to the office on an occasional basis. The International Telework Association reports that employees who telework can save their employers $10,000 each year in reduced absenteeism and job retention costs.

Through BATMA, employers have access to free, one-on-one consulting with a nationally recognized telework expert to help you establish or expand a formal telework program.  Contact Amy Sturgill, 404-842-2692 or amy@batma.org to learn more.

Flextime
Flex-time allows employees to set their own start and finish times for work. In most flex-time situations, there are core hours everyone must work. Each employee still works the same number of hours but decides what time to arrive and leave and very often regulates his or her lunch times. Flex-time allows employees to avoid rush hour and to organize their time around their own family situation and their peak energy levels.

Compressed Work Week
Compressed Work Weeks allow employees to shorten their work week by one or more days while working their “regular” number of hours. This is done by working an increased number of hours each day in a shorter-than-normal number of days per week or pay period. For instance, 40 hours in four days (4/40) allows one day each week off or 80 hours in 9 days (9/80) allows one day off every other week.
Compressed work weeks provide several benefits:

  • Potential savings on operating costs one day a week
  • More overall hours can be worked in a facility without running additional shifts and/or overtime.

Commuter Fairs and On-Site Events
BATMA will come to you!  BATMA will host free lunch and learns, break room events, and attend benefits fairs to provide commute alternative information and assistance to your employees.
