Walking FAQs

I would like to walk to work but don’t have time - what can I do?
At peak times walking to work can actually save you time, especially if you only live a mile or so from your destination.  Most people walk at a speed of around 3 miles an hour.  This means that a 1 mile trip will only take approximately 20 minutes to walk, which could be quicker than sitting in peak hour traffic.

What if I live too far from work to walk?
If you don’t live within walking distance of your destination, consider walking just part of the way and taking transit the remainder of the trip. This will still decrease traffic congestion, save you money on gas, and help to keep you fit.  Additionally, you can walk during the work day when running errands or going to lunch by  finding cafés, restaurants, retail stores, dry cleaners, etc. that are within walking distance of your office.

“I live close to my job…walking keeps me from driving my vehicle when the weather is nice…and if I leave work when it’s too dark to walk, I’ll take MARTA home.  Walking gives me a break, it helps clear my mind on my way to and from work while keeping me toned.”
